Why us?

Choosing the right photographer for a campaign can be difficult, this page affords you an insight into our work and what to expect. We provide creative imagery for your campaign or project that aims to inspire your customers, these are the key elements we believe are imperative for a successful commission.

Creativity is the fundamental key to any successful commercial photography when mixed with a strongly defined shooting style. Commercially it is very important for client to choose a photographer based not only on their obvious technical ability but most importantly on their 'style' of work, this has been the main driving force behind all successful photographers for over 100 years and one that is just as important to day as it ever was with the age of digital technology. True creativity still exists in the capture and control of light with your subject mixed with a strong creative vision of the world.

'Made in England' is our creative burst that highlights some of the work of UK car photographer Tim Wallace over 12 months, his vision, his style and his passion for pushing creative boundaries.

We strive to make a campaign the greatest success possible through a strong and dynamic use of photography as well as always ensuring that we expose the essence of the statement the client wants to make through their campaign. Tim Wallace is well known within the commercial photography field and has gained the respect of many key individuals over the years for both his approach and attitude to his work.

I consider it a great privilege to have met Tim, and find both his professionalism, inspired creativity and relaxed persona, a joy to work with.
I look forward to working with him again in the very near future." - Chris Russell Fish, Managing Director of Hasselblad.

We listen
We listen to your specific requirements and importantly what you wish to achieve from the photography. We guarantee you'll receive the best possible results, quickly and efficiently. When you're under pressure for time and the photography is just one of the many projects you're managing, having a photographer you can trust to meet your deadlines is critical. We have experience of not only working with large marketing organizations such as Ice and Buddy in Sweden but also working directly with very large clients such as Aston Martin, Morgan, Land Rover, NFT, and many others.

Understanding the requirements
AmbientLife has a simple but effective process that allows us to build a full and detailed picture of what you are looking for. The initial step is to simply have a discussion with you and find out where and how the photography will be used, what style of photography you're looking for and what you want to emphasise in each photo. Other items you may wish to discuss are branding inclusion in the photography and orientation of images so that they fit into those proverbial holes that many brochure and web designers will already have in mind. We will also be looking closely at the finished output that you have in mind whether that be web use or a corporate media presentation, it’s often at this point that we find that these discussions can be very useful in outlining some possibilities through our experience that you may not have considered previously.
Once we've gained an overview of your needs we can move forward and plan the work so that it takes place as efficiently as possible.

We'll review the content and advise you of any suggestions we have regarding the actual shoot, how long the shoot is anticipated to take, the number of photographs you can expect to receive and also a price estimate. If you are happy for us to proceed, you can confirm by sending an email stating you would like to confirm the commission.

Our Clients and Our Work
We are fortunate to work with some very high profile and creative clients, we have illustrated here some samples of recent work that we have undertaken and completed with just some of the companies we work with both within the UK and Internationally. Virtually all of our work and commissions come through recommendation and referral, something that we are very proud of and we feel reflects not only the quality of our work but also our creative approach to our projects.

Aston Martin Ltd
We have worked with Aston Martin for a number of years now and some of Tim's Aston Martin photography is very well known within the automotive industry for being both cutting edge and for its more unusual creative artist approach. One of our largest clients we shoot regular work with Aston working on both sales photography and brochures as well as the background engineering and process engineering work. We were commissioned to shoot the infamous £1 million Aston Martin, the One-77 at the main Aston Martin Design Centre in Gaydon and this material was used in both advertising and editorial features worldwide. Each year we also produce the work for the Aston Calendar which has now become considered as a collectors item and is dispatched to over 50 countries throughout the world at the end of each year.

Tim - "Our work with Aston is in my opinion some of the most satisfying and challenging that we carry out. The purchase of an Aston Martin can cost anywhere between £80k and £8m and as such its my responsibility to create an image or a series of images that capture the sheer essence of a car or a model range to both inspire and create a desire within the viewer to drive his or her own wish to consider the Aston Martin as a serious and desirable purchase. You don't in truth purchase an Aston Martin based on just performance and it is unlikely that the practical aspects of economy and efficiency will factor highly in the decision, as such it is very much an emotional and lifestyle based purchase, this means that I need to shoot according to that market and to that end and create that desire, this is exactly what we try to achieve with our work for Aston in this product area and over the last 4 years we have seen sales of the Classic Aston models almost double and also seen a broadening of the modern range customer base, a very satisfying response to the campaigns and work that has been put into these advertising and commercial projects. We are just a small cog in the machine but we work very closely with out clients to ensure that we are aware of not only exactly what is required form us but also to try and look at exactly what will drive our clients own customers for the best possible outcome to a campaign.

Project Genevieve - Burgess New York
N39° 33' 47 W2° 20' 43 off the coast of Palma was the central location recently for commercial photographer Tim Wallace as he worked on the commercial shoot of the luxury yacht 'Genevieve' for our yacht charter client based in New York.

In the new build sector of the super yacht market, there will always be big personalities, visionaries setting out to push the envelope and make a dramatic statement. Photographer Tim Wallace was recently asked to work with a global company who is the top savvy brand behind this market in a new venture to shoot there latest offering 'Genevieve' with his strong dramatic style of photography capture.

The company approached Commercial Photographer Tim Wallace with a desire to have their product shot in Tim's style using both technical still, medium format high end quality and most importantly 'passion'. Initial the interior work had already been completed and Tim along with a crew of support staff including staff from Hasselblad met with the boat in Palma a few weeks ago to board equipment and sail to the shoot location off Dragonera Island.

Tim - "Its was an exciting project and one that in truth has been on the table being discussed through their New York office now for nearly a year. I'm no stranger to shooting prestige modes of transport and I guess I'm best known for my work in the car industry but this project really offers massive scope to 'get dramatic' and to some degree I feel like we have a blank canvas to fill which was certainly a challenge but one that both myself and the team were very devoted to. I'll worked closely with Hasselblad and the support crew to shoot this stunning ship for a marketing campaign that will hopefully not only raise the brand for our client but also offer a new vision for what it possible in the world of yacht and boat photography. I'm hoping that I have managed to inject some real passion into the project with photography that has not been seen before. I think some of the team were a little anxious of my plans to hang out of helicopters at dawn but after numerous meetings to discuss equipment needs and logistics we saw a very busy but productive 2 days shooting. Trying to plan out lighting and requirements for setups was a challenge and we had 8 lights on the boat and others in support boats to each side while I shot quite literally out of a Helicopter. In truth the logistics of a shoot like this never are, equipment required, insurance, the sheer fact that your dealing with a ship that costs out at £1m per metre not to mention the hire and set up for 2 helicopters and multiple RIB fast boats for lighting etc. It's been a great project and I'm looking forward to doing further work in the yacht sector in the future.

Jaguar Land Rover
Jaguar Land Rover joined our client list in 2009 and since then we have worked closely with them both on Land Rover Experience marketing projects globally as well as shooting dedicated work at their Design Centre at Gaydon and on the Proving ground, we also have worked with them at the Halewood and Solihull plants to promote these area's and their business importance and raise public awareness both inside and outside the business.

Mercedes
Mercedes Commercial and Ambient Life have worked together since 2008 with Photographer Tim Wallace shooting both commercial parts work as well as the annual commercial parts calendar project for our Mercedes client.
The calendar is very successful and was born from the clients passion for the parts work that we originally started to supply back in 2008, comments were made that the photography was that inspired that a calendar should be made and from that year onwards this is exactly what has been done with it being placed into all Mercedes outlets through the world each year.

Morgan Motor Company
The Morgan Motor Company, one of our clients that joined Ambient Life in 2010. Since working with Morgan we have supplied photography for both web and brochure use as well as providing powerful dynamic photography for the Geneva Motor Show launch of the new Sport Series and exhibitions such as the 2010 Design Exhibition held in Milan Italy.

In mid 2010 car photographer Tim Wallace was involved in the launch of the new concept from Morgan, the Eva GT, the car was shot by Tim following its launch in the US to provide marketing and brochure material as the company promote the car globally prior to the start of production in 2012.

The majority of the work was shot on location at the Morgan main factory in the UK and Tim worked closely with their designers and marketing division to ensure that during the two day shoot a large amount of diverse and powerful imagery was created. The car has attracted a huge amount of interest globally and Morgan have already taken thousands of calls with deposits already being paid by some with delivery being anticipated in 2012 for those first purchasers. It was crucial to shoot a wide spectrum of work not only close and high quality detail but also 'lifestyle' type work that Tim has become famous for with his dramatic use of the world around him that not only shows the car being shot but more importantly attempts to bring the viewer into the photography to understand how the car makes you feel, creating a desire and a passion within the customer equalled only by that of Morgan for what is to be a very significant car for the UK manufacturer over the next few years.

Hasselblad UK
'Little Miss Innocent', a commercial project based in the UK created and styled by photographer Tim Wallace. The work has been used in various forms from marketing to event promotion and in October 2010 Tim was awarded 'Photographer of the month' by Hasselblad for the project lead image with his work being featured in the infamous 'Victor' magazine published Worldwide. The project concept was a personal one and regarded the use of fur in the fashion industry in the 50's and 60's. The work although it has a main fashion photography element within it still maintains Tim's very definite style and approach to his work.

In 2010 we worked with UK singer songwriter Alistair Griffin to shoot promotional record material as well as work to help promote his new album in the industry.

What's involved on the day of the shoot?
Arranging a photo shoot can be time consuming and is often a long-winded process, with the need to obtain permission from all parties concerned… from the building's owner or architect to arranging access with security. By leaving these finer details to AmbientLife, you can concentrate on other aspects within your business saving you the time and hassle. Very occasionally we're asked for more information on the photographic assignment.
You can be confident that should any issues arise, they'll always be resolved quickly and efficiently.
At AmbientLife Photography we always ensure you're never left out of the loop and will always update you with changes to any arrangements.
This way, if any unforeseen hurdles are encountered with the shoot, we can deal with these swiftly as and when they arise.

Once the actual shoot commences the hard work really begins. Before any photographs are even taken, your brief is always reviewed again on site. This allows us to walk around the site and carefully consider what your requirements are and what we have to work with.

What happens next ?
Once we're back in the studio the final process takes place transforming the RAW images into stunning photographs. First of all the images are downloaded from the camera's memory cards on to the computer. After these RAW files are saved and converted to 16 bit Tiff format for the final image manipulation in Photoshop, they are archived for safekeeping. This is to ensure that in the event of any computer failure, your pictures are safely backed up on to a separate disc that can be easily retrieved if needed. Using specialist software those RAW image files that have been selected are individually processed to give the optimum colour balance and brightness.
When working in the digital darkroom, any unwanted artefact's e.g. company logo's etc that couldn't be physically removed on site, are carefully removed from the Tiff images and the background seamlessly blended in. Then the colour saturation, brightness and contrast are fine-tuned to give the best results possible.
Finally, the images are sharpened to enhance the way the pictures appear in print, then saved in 8 bit Tiff and Jpeg format ready to be issued to you at A4 300dpi (dots per inch) being the industry standard for colour reproduction in brochures and catalogues but if you do require them in another format, we'll convert them to whatever you want. We normally supply all files on sRGB colour-space however we are very happy to also supply in CYMK if that is your requirement at no extra cost what so ever. If you intend using the photos on your website, we provide you with a set of images specially reduced to 72 dpi. This is because you'll need smaller files when the images are used for this purpose. There is also an option to have your work digitally watermarked discreetly to ensure that it is totally theft proof on line if the work is to be used for product catalogues or such like. Commonly your final photographic work is then burned on to one of our data CD's - labeled to show the job name and date of the shoot for ease of reference.
We do also supply a printing service to all our clients and this allows you to maintain the best possible quality from our work so that it may displayed correctly and to a high standard, part of the service also includes a design element where we can work with our clients to create placements of work that are fully branded.

Invoicing and postage
A copy of our invoice will also be enclosed for your attention at the point that you are given the completed work. Our standard payment terms are 30 days from date of invoice and you may decide to pay by cheque or automatic BACS transfer (whichever is easiest for you).
We will also need a purchase order number, if this is the method you use for authorising invoice payments.

Guide
Some clients find the concept of copyright and licensing quite confusing. This page is aimed at helping clients who may be struggling with this area of commissioning a photographer.

Copyright is about who owns the images.

Licensing is about who has the right to reproduce the images.

A license can be designed to fit a clients needs. It will set out what type of publications the photographs can be used in, under what circumstances, where in the world they can be used and the length of time this agreement between photographer and client lasts.

If the client finds they need to use the photographs in a way that is not covered by the license or that they need to use them after the period of the license has run out, they need to contact the photographer to negotiate further use at an extra cost.
