Profile
At the age of 16 I started work in the darkrooms of the Western Morning News (Daily Mail Group) where I learned the art of printing and had my baptism of fire into the world of photojournalism, working with many great photographers from both the National Press and agencies such as The Press Association. At 19 I joined the 'Devon and Cornwall Press', a top agency based in the South West, and went on to spend my time behind the camera. My strong knowledge of lighting conditions and exposure controls allowed me the edge to gain much success. Mixing this with a more 'contemporary' style to my work, I soon found favour with the UK National Press, having work published in the Guardian, Independent and Times to name a few. One year later I went into partnership with the Tamar Agency based in the South West and continued building on my successes whilst exploring other area's such as Public Relations and Corporate photography with great success with many Large UK company contracts.
At the age of 22 I joined the Royal Navy, serving with 42 Commando Royal Marines in many parts of the world, and after service I followed a more corporate route working with Companies such as, Orange and Virgin Media.
This period has allowed me the opportunity to fully understand the needs of a business in today's environment, both from a service and operational perspective, allowing me to gain a firm understanding of client needs and deadlines.
Whilst I supply corporate work I also undertake work for private clients. My main drive is always based on originality and quality of the work for the client, a strong relationship built on a firm understanding of the clients needs, and good solid customer service. My aim is not to meet a clients expectations but to surpass them at every opportunity to create a great product and build a solid future.
In 2007 we have enjoyed a quality and excellence award through corporate photography in 'E Newsletter' design for internet publications, and also recognition from Future Publishing of a 'Portfolio' award for excellence in photography, July 2007. The launch of at Aston Art through our Aston Martin Client and the development of a new exciting Virtual Exhibition to allow us to share our work Worldwide. I would like to think our work goes from strength to strength, and as we build on new client relationships, both corporate and private, I always ensure that our work is of the very best quality so that it may speak for itself and carry the reputation I have built through my company 'Ambient Life™'.
Now 2008 is upon us and Ambient Life continues to go from strength to strength. We were delighted when Scott Kelby, President of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP), featured our work in Jan 2008 and referred to it as 'some of the most inspirational automotive work to recently some out of the UK'. He serves as training director for the Adobe Photoshop Seminar Tour and is the technical chair of the largest Photoshop gathering in the industry, Photoshop World. He has also written countless best-selling professional photography books, and as such his comments carry a great commendation for us within the industry. I was also very honoured in March 2008 when we were approached by Swiss professional lighting giant Elinchrom. The company showcase the work of a handful of photographers from around the world to inspire their professional clients and showcase just what can be achieved from using their equipment. I was very pleased to take up position as their new professional in their famous 'Elinca' Gallery with some of my more well known automotive work. Elinca is a hugely respected supplier of professional lighting equipment to many photographers across the globe and supply both field and studio equipment. Professionals chosen to have their work showcased include some very respected names in the industry such as Drew Gardner who works as a fashion photographer in the UK, Christoffer Sjostrom who is renowned for his Alpine ski photography, and Marco Grob who is known for his stunning portrait work with celebrities such as Sir Elton John, Lionel Richie, Pink, and Ronan Keating to name but a few.
2008 has also seen a healthy growth in new clients, we never advertise at Ambient Life and virtually all our work comes through reputation which I feel is very important and a good measure of our quality and drive within the industry.
The future?
Who knows what tomorrow will bring apart from more opportunities.
